Reporter Duty

CSC 300, Turner, Spring 2008.

Each lab team has the duty to take notes for 5 consecutive classes and produce a document to reflect the highlights of the class meetings.  The document will be reproduced and given to all those attending CSC 300 in both sections.  You may produce 60 copies yourself for distribution, or I would be glad to make the copies from a single master.

Lab teams will be formed and will make a choice about the 5 consecutive classes they'd like to cover.  This is a Team Duty, the team is to determine its own way to produce the document and execute its own form of quality control.  The team may be interviewed or surveyed to ensure some participation by all team members in the activity.  The document is for the benefit of the team doing the organization of notes as well as the rest of the class in providing a high level series of class notes.

The document consists of two parts - the report, and the administrative notes.

The report document to be produced may be no longer than 2 pages (one page double sided).  The basic goal is to cover the important highlights of the class discussion, to capture any references that may be important to remember, and to summarize the major arguments and any conclusions that were reached.  Fine detail is not needed (or desired).  The document should be fairly high level, yet precise enough to recount the sense of the classes, what was exciting, interesting, the nature of any arguments, useful references and further questions generated by discussion.

The administrative notes are to capture important deadlines, dates, or changes in course requirements.  If a question is asked about a course requirement and Turner explains things, changes things or corrects mistakes, it should be noted.  Pronouncements Turner makes regarding writing standards and the importance of logical bases of argument (for your termpaper and presentation) are critical to note and heed.  References or recommended external standards for class evaluation should be included.
