Paper Grading Guidelines
The course research paper will be evaluated according to the
following guidelines.
- Problem Area
- Adequacy of problem statement
Does the reader understand the problem you're working on?
- Definition of relevant terms
Are all terms defined sufficiently to support the problem statement and
future analysis?
- Importance/relevance of the problem.
Does the paper state the problem well? Does the reader care about the problem?
- Related Work
- Adequacy of survey of existing work and approaches to solution.
Does the paper clearly explain the state-of-the-art in the topic?
- Citations
They should be clear, helpful, organized and annotated as appropriate.
- Student Contribution
- Existing work
Have you either successfully criticized existing work or written a
clear synthesis of existing work?
- Open questions
How well does the paper expose open questions or areas for future work?
- New direction
How well does the paper generate new ideas (by extension, by analogue or
an original idea)?
