Lab 2

1. Pick a new partner - not anyone that you worked with in the past.
2. App Inventor requires a little setup. You can do this on your own machine, or use the lab setup.
• Follow the instructions to set up your computer and phone
• If you will be developing in App Inventor without a phone attached, you can use the emulator as described in the Hello Purr app.
3. With your partner, complete all parts of the following Basic Tutorials except MoleMash:
• HelloPurr (Part 1) with a phone or HelloPurr (Part 1) with the emulator
• HelloPurr (Part 2)
• PaintPot (Part 1)
• PaintPot (Part 2) if link is broken, use this one: http://beta.appinventor.mit.edu/learn/tutorials/paintpot/paintpot-part2.html
• PicCall
4. With your partner, create a new app called PaintContact that extends PaintPot in the following ways:
• Start with a complete PaintPot Part 2 app.
• Add a contact picker button at the bottom of the screen.
• Set the canvas background image to the picture of the contact picked.
• Allow drawing on the picture as in the PaintPot app.
• Show Dr. Janzen this new app when you have it completed.
• On your lab 2 page in your e-portfolio,
• declare who you worked with
• paste in an image of the new functionality you added (beyond PaintPot) in the Blocks Editor
5. With anyone in the class, start to brainstorm ideas for an App Inventor app.
6. On your own,
• Complete the MoleMash Tutorial.
• Replace the mole picture with a picture of yourself that you take with a phone. You will probably want to resize it to fit well in the game.
• Demo MoleMash to Dr. Janzen in lab.
• Using complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling, copy and answer the following questions on your lab 2 page of your e-portfolio:
• App Inventor allows you to create event handlers. What is an event handler? Explain and give an example of one event and corresponding event handler from one of the tutorials.
• List three ideas for an App Inventor app. For each idea, include a one or two sentence description and a list of potential features.
