CPE/CSC 490 Selected Advanced Topics -- Internet 2 Assignments
Guest Speaker Reports
For each of the presentations by guest speakers, you need to write a
short report with the following structure:
Title
Speaker
name, affiliation
Author
student writing the report
Summary of the talk (4 points)
main points of the talk
Clarification Questions (2 points)
at least 3 questions to the speaker
(e.g. for further details on some topics, or for clarification)
Comprehension Questions (2 points)
questions and answers that can be used to evaluate
the understanding (these may be used for the midterm or final)
References (2 points)
at least 3 additional references (books, journal articles,
Web pages) relevant for the topic, with one or two
sentences that briefly explain why you think that particular
reference is relevant
The report will be evaluated by the instructor, possibly
in collaboration with the speakers.
Each report will be worth 10 points, and the points for
all the reports will be added up, with a cap at 50 points.
Since there are more than ten presentations, you can make up
for a possible lower score on some reports by submitting more
than five.
Student Presentation
Each student will give one presentation on a selected aspect of the
Internet2. This is similar to the team project, but on an individual
basis. The presentation should be about 15-20 minutes long.
You can include a demo in the presentation, but it should not
use up most of the presentation time. The presentation
should be accompanied by a written report.
The presentation and the report will each be worth 25 points.
Submission of Assignments
Unless noted otherwise, assignments should be submitted
electronically via a BlackBoard Discussion Board.
The deadline is one week after the respective presentation.
Grading Policy
Usually I give points for assignments, not letter grades.
All the assignments for a course add up
to 100 points, which is then scaled to the contributing
factor with respect to the overall grade (e.g. 20%).
Alternatively, I may use 100 points per assignment,
with a weight factor for each individual assignment.
