1.5.2. Heux
Heux is a great tool for interactive learning in the classroom. Teachers can upload their already
existing powerpoint files and any other files they may need and Heux will use those files as
the whiteboard. Students can view on their screens the information that the teacher is sharing with
them. Students can draw on their own screens and share what they have drawn with the teacher. Heux
conducts polls on topics created by the teacher and students can submit their answers through
the application.
Overall, Heux is a good option for hosting online classroom sessions.
Good Features:
-
Draw on top of lectures: Files can be integrated into the app and can be drawn
on for students to be able to take their own notes or submit answers to the teacher.
-
Submit answer to question: The teacher can create questions for the students that
are sent out to each student. The students can either draw on slides or submit textual answer,
depending on the type of question.
-
Have blank whiteboard: Students can create a blank whiteboard on top of any
lecture where they can take notes or draw examples with an array of coloring and writing tools.
-
Conduct forums: The classroom including the teacher can all talk to each other
in a forum. Questions can be asked and answered in the forum as well as getting help on a task.
-
Go online: The app allows for students to pull up internet sources on top of the
lecture so that the lecture is not limited to only what is on the slides. Information can be
accessed from anywhere on the internet through the app.
-
Observe other people's screens: The app lets the teacher view all of the
student's screens so that the professor can make sure everyone is on task as well as see if a
student may be struggling on a question or assignment.
-
Co-Edit Feature: The teacher can allow students to co-edit slides alongside
the teacher so that students can actively be engaged in the lecture.
Bad Features:
-
The Heux app does not let students save lectures for later reference.
-
Heux is not supported on Mac OS X.
-
Screen sharing can sometimes be slow when students are all actively using the system at once.
Missing Features:
-
The only way to get a lecture into the app is to load an existing file. There is no tool to
create lectures from within the app.
-
Voice and video chat between students and teacher.
-
View lectures and personal whiteboard side-by-side.
-
Gauges to rate the lecture.
-
Saving lectures for students.
Noteworthy features:
-
Heux is available for iPad and other tablets.
-
Heux has different levels of pricing including a free version.
-
Ability for teacher to see student's screens.
-
Get a list of all present and absent students.
-
The teacher can store their lectures in the cloud.
