1.5.1. GradeKeeper
Gradekeeper is an application (for Windows, Mac OS X, and iPad) that allows teachers
to enter assignments, scores, and students and computes grades, prints reports, and sends
email progress reports among other features. The software seems to be intended mostly for
high school and below, but has many features that would be applied for a university level
gradebook as well. Overall, the strong point of Gradekeeper is the amount of features it
has (some of which this Grader project will not implement). However, the implementation
and functionality of some of these features could be improved.
Good Features:
-
Assignment categories, can register an assignment category with a weight and number of assignments to drop
-
Can change the letter grade minimum scores
-
Allows other marks on assignments besides a score (ABS, EXC, etc)
-
Attendance feature: take attendance, choose to deduct a certain % of grade for each absence after a certain number
of absences, can set x tardies = 1 absence
-
Reports feature: lots of options for which type of report the user wants, however the report does not have a graphical representation
-
Imports feature: many different options for which information user is importing
Bad Features:
-
Must individually enter a name for each assignment (can't just create 10 assignments at once in a homework category)
-
imports can only be tab or comma separated values
-
limited to 150 assignments and 250 students
-
All option features in dropdown tabs at top of page
-
Only one gradebook can be open at a time (must save current and open different to switch)
Missing Features:
-
Graphical representation of grades
-
Does not support student groups/teams
-
Student use of gradebook, only supports teacher management
