1.1. Problem Statement

The general problems to be addressed by the Scheduler Tool project are the following:

  1. to provide an electronic means for instructors to specify course topic preferences and qualifications for an academic quarter

  2. to provide an electronic means for instructors to input the time-of-day in which they prefer to teach

  3. to provide an easily executable course-scheduling tool, which takes into account the instructors course topic and time-of-day preferences
While these problems have been solved by a number of commercially available and public domain products, the Scheduler Tool provides a solution with certain functional improvements over existing tools. Specific problem areas are the following:

  1. improved user experience in terms of aesthetic appearance as well as intuitiveness

  2. greater focus on instructor preferences

  3. providing a wide range of scheduler viewing options

  4. dealing effectively with changes and edits
