All information in the databases will be available to the department scheduler. Generated schedules will be private until the department scheduler "publishes" them. Once a schedule has been published, it will be available for viewing by students and faculty. When viewing a schedule, the user can click on a instructor's name and see information about the instructor including their office number, phone number and email address. Instructor preferences will be visible only to the department scheduler and the instructor whose preferences they are.

On a spectrum of simple-to-use versus powerful, the Scheduling Tool is on the side of powerful. For students and faculty, the program will be fairly simple to use but the scheduling administrator must be fully computer literate and knowledgeable on the use of computer networks consisting of local computers and central data servers.
