1.1. Problem Statement

The Grader project will address these general problems:

  1. to provide instructors with a highly customizable tool to manage grades for their classes
  2. to provide students with access to their own grades
  3. to provide features missing from the web-based PolyLearn system that is currently available on campus

There are already existing products that attempt to solve these problems, most of them requiring a subscription. However, the Grader provides more control over critical gradebook features, as well as eliminating extra classroom management features. The specific features are:

  1. creating nestable groups of students and assignments
  2. displaying spreadsheet of grades with data toggle and group collapse options
  3. manipulating curves with graphical tools
  4. archiving of grades from previous terms
  5. grading according to late and extra credit policies
  6. predicting student grades
  7. hosting a central repository where instructors post grades and students view them
  8. submitting final grades to the campus registrar’s office at the end of the term
