Potential positive impacts of a Grading Tool as a software system are having one grading tool that does everything increases conveniece and the efficiency of managing and viewing grades. Positive impacts of the Grading Tool as an asistance tool in a classroom include:

  1. faster end-of-quarter grade submission, compared to current web-based system utilized by Cal Poly faculty
  2. gradebook-integrated electronic turn-in of student work, compared to the current stand-alone electronic turn in utilized by some CSC faculty
  3. better ways for teachers to assign grades
  4. better ways for students to viw grades

There are a few potential negative impats that could arise. If the system is poorly designed, it can decrease convenience and efficiency for the users. There may also be problems with reliability and data integrity if the system is not designed well. If a teacher relies on a flawed implementation of the system to store grades and those grades are lost or corrupted, the teacher and students may suffer significant disruptions. There is also the matter of violating campus security and privacy policies. Specific areas are:

  1. a faulty information that reveals student grades and relate information to other students
  2. students being able to alter electronic turn-in dates to allow them to turn in late work unpenalized
  3. possible interception of grades as they're being transferred among local and server machines
  4. a student besides a TA being able to change grades
