3.2. General Characteristics

3.2.1. Security and Privacy

The Grader Tool has both an instructor and a student view. It is very important to differentiate between the two views since the instructor one can both access and modify grades or other sensitive information from various students. The student view of the Grader Tool will allow students to view and predict their grades and access general class statistics. They will be able to see their class rank but will not see other student's grades or class rank. The instructor will be able to modify and access sensitive student information and will be responsible for handling said information carefully. The central host passwords of any user must be kept secure from viewing or modification by any other Grading Tool user, and from any user at all on the central host.

3.2.2. Simplicity versus Power

On a spectrum of simple-to-use versus powerful, the Grading Tool is heavily on the side of simple-to-use. Users are not assumed to be advanced computer users. In fact, the user interface has been designed with simplicity in mind. The use of tabs and lack of complicated menus are some examples of the simple-to-use design.
