Microsoft Excel is not a dedicated grading software, but because of the features it provides, some teachers use it for grading.
Teachers can get advanced spreadsheet features and charts, and add custom functionality.
Good Features:

Import/Export of Data: The software lets you import and export data in many types

Packaged with Microsoft Office: many people are already familiar with the software

Bad Features:

No built-in support for grading

Too many irrelevant features cluttering the user interface

No way to collapse all columns into just categories, have to look at each category

Charts are non-interactive
