3.2 Qualitative System Characteristics

For CSTutor privacy and security are paramount for our end users. The purpose of our tool is to provide a simple, non-threatening environment in which students may receive help from an instructor. In terms of security, CSTutor provides initial authentication to access the main datapool in which user tracking data and scores are stored. This authentication also gives a measure of privacy to any end user who does not wich their particular score to be known by other users. CSTutor also allows users to enter anonymously, such that users will not be tracked by the system if they so wish.

Because CSTutor is designed to be as simple as possible for the beginner, the general user will find CSTutor quite basic in terms of system options. There are some customization options, but they are meant for very utilitarian purposes. The administrator and instructor tools, however, are designed to be very flexible such that instructors and administrators can meet the specific needs and requirements of a class as easily and simply as possible. If an instructor wishes to upload a lesson in under 5 minutes, CSTutor makes it quite possible. On the other hand, if the instructor wants to customize a lesson with individual thumbnails and intricate Code Boxes, that, and many other options, are also available.
