Easy Grade Pro
is a very powerful grading tool created by Orbis Software. Teachers control their grade sheets
through an easy-to-use, fully customizable interface. Teachers have several ways to post
information to parents and students, including HTML and email reports. This program is top-of-the-line and has
many more features than any other product reviewed here.
Good Features:
- can contain hundreds of
classes, which can be switched between with a single mouse press
- each class has five charts,
selected by tabs: score, attendance, seating, students, and assignments
- scores
- grade scales can have
letters, words, numbers and can be unique to each student, or each score
category
- score categories can
be weighted or unweighted, can include numbers, grades, symbols and
words, and can be entered by typing, clicking and filling down and can be
entered directly from unsorted student papers using a high-speed search
tool
- Scores can be dropped
and curved, and automatically calculated grades can be overriden and
curved
- scores can be imported
from most tab or space separated text files, spreadsheet and database
programs.
- each class can contain up to
a thousand students
- students can be
imported from other software, including administration software
- student records can
include numberous user-defined fields
- Summaries and reports
- extensive textual
notes can be entered into the summaries
- offers nineteen
comprehensive, customizable reports

to the full summaries window.

- Internet Features: Four
methods are available for posting student reports
- HTML reports:
teachers, schools, and districts can post student reports with password
security using their own web server.
- Email Reports: Create
a folder of student reports, that can be attached to email messages, sent
and viewed by parents and students using their web browser.
- Edine: provides a
complete internet platform that serves as your school's website. Uploads
of grades, announcements, calendars, news, and more are easy and secure.
- Basmati: open-source
software (SourceForge) that can run on the district's Linux, Unix,
WinNT/2000 or Max OSX server. Generate grade file and upload it to the
server using a web browser.
- all tools are fully
customizable, and can be moved or removed to simplify the layout
- allows the user to create or
choose from existing data filters
- change the order of student
and assignments by dragging rows and columns
- add additional columns to
show points, ID numbers, rank and more
- copy tools allow data
movement between classes with ease.
- dictionary is available to
spell-check all text.

Bad Features:
- up to ten master
attendance categories can be used with up to fifteen subcategories; daily
attendance can be exported over a network to school administration
software. While this tool is easy-to-use, it is not necessary for our
purposes here.
- includes a very detailed
seating chart system, allowing seats, furniture, and other shapes to be
added to match the layout of the classroom. Like the attendance mode, this
would be mostly a bonus feature
Missing Features:
- No graphical grade
adjustment tool to set grade threshold values
- Can’t split
grading cells within a category for multiple part assignments
- Student access to their
own reports and class statistics without needing teachers to post a report
- time-stamp pop-up for
any grade changes
