1.1. Problem Statement
Easy Grader solves the following problems found in most grader programs:
-
Current grading tools are restrictive and/or require spreadsheet programs,
such as Microsoft Excel
-
Many programs can display graphical information, but lack user manipulation
-
Some programs set limitations on the number of points an assignment could
have, the amount of students in a class, etc.
-
Web-dependent grading tools (such as Cal Poly's BlackBoard) are inaccessible
if the instructor does not have internet access, or if the server is down,
etc.
-
Some programs provide extra-credit features, but lack flexibility and
customization
Easy Grader addresses the following issues that most grader programs lack:
-
Introduces interaction with graphs that in turn create information in a new
column
-
Provides category filtering, where instructors can choose not to view
certain columns
-
Provides collapsible group information in rows and columns (e.g. "teams" and
"tests/quizzes/assignments/projects")
-
Provides a feature that predicts grades
-
Provides an interface to exchange information with Student Information
Services (SIS)
-
Provides a centralized host repository where instructors post grades and
students fetch the data
-
Provides a feature that allows instructors to customize the name of grade
categories and assignments
-
Provides progressive grading with built-in formulas as well as an option for
instructors to create their own grading formula
