Qualitative System Characteristics

Security and Privacy

There may be security issues during the process of logging into the central server or vogon. In regards to privacy, students have access only to classmates' grades, but not their identity. Professors and TAs can obviously view the students' names, IDs, and grades.

Easy Grader is geared for users familiar with word spreadsheets, like Microsoft Excel. Users also should know the basic login requirements to fetch and post grades. With that basic knowledge, this tool can be used by most instructors and students. Easy Grader was created for the ease of use by students and professors, and was not designed for "power" users.

The development time encompasses an academic quarter, or roughly three months. The development costs include time and the software used (free) to create the Easy Grader. The software life cycle constraints include the following:

Users must install Easy Grader on their computer to be able to use it. Different versions of the Easy Grader will be distributed to users according to their position--users are either instructors, teacher's assistants, or students. The price of the software is not yet established.

Legal issues involve the privacy of students' grades as well as the security vulnerabilities exposed when users log in to the central server.
