Mimosa is a timetabling scheduling software that is used at numerous
universities nation wide. The most distinguishable feature of Mimosa is
the component oriented system. A master scheduler can define any component
unique to the school for influencing schedule generation.
Good Features:
- covers the basics fine
- effective color coding in calendar view
- customizable time increments
- statistical and graphical data on schedules
- provides the user with multiple views of the schedule
at the same time, including a combination of week view and course view.
- provides the user to automatically optimize the
schedule in terms of time gaps.
- Ability to set time constraints on the schedule
- Multiple levels of undo/redo
Bad Features:
- Information on all courses
and rooms is located in one project file, rather than separate databases.
- Making schedule preferences
means learning the complex modular structure of Mimosa
- Schedule view seems
cluttered with many graphical buttons
- Overwhelming amount of
input elements
- Little focus in the GUI on
automatic scheduling based on preferences
Missing Features:
- No interface for students or teachers. All aspects of
the scheduling is done at a single interface
- No use of different databases for storing university
information
- No capability for students to plan schedules
- No capability of determining teacher fairness
It’s modular approach makes it a versatile tool for scheduling.
However, its versatility makes the scheduling process less user friendly.
