2.2. Selecting an Application Category

There are four different application categories for this scheduler software, and they are Courses, Instructors, Classrooms, and Schedule. The way the scheduler is set up, the user can only be in one application category at any given time, so it is important to know how to quickly change between the categories. There are two ways to switch between the application categories.

The easiest way to select what application category the user wants, is by using the Category Toolbar, show below in Figure 2.2-1.

This is a floating window that will always be shown, no matter what category the user is in. To make category change, simply click once on the icon in the Category Toolbar and the application category changes.

The other way that a user can change the application category of the scheduler, is through the Menu Toolbar at the top of the screen. The Menu Toolbar layout is shown in Figure 2.2-2 below.

The user can change the application category from the "View" section of the Menu Toolbar as seen above. Clicking the "View" tab on the Menu Toolbar causes a drop-down menu to appear that contains the four application categories: Courses, Instructors, Classrooms, and Schedule. Using the Menu Toolbar can be especially useful when the user knows exactly what he or she wants to do within the category. This is because for each category under the "View" menu, there is an additional drop down menu that appears which links to some of the tools for managing the specific category. These managing tools might be "New", "View", or "Edit". When these managing tools are selected, the new category opens with the selected tool already started.

Both the Category Toolbar and the Menu Toolbar provide quick ways to switch between the different application categories that make up this scheduling software.
