1.5.4 Discovery Quiz Center
The Discovery Quiz Center is a resource made available by
Discovery Education in association with the Discovery Channel.
It is a free resource available to teachers that can help
prepare tests and quizzes that can be administered to students
over the Internet.
Good Features:
- Provides a simple, wizard-like guide for test generation.
- Does not confuse the test creator with too many features; good for beginners.
- Allows the teacher to save all created tests online for later use.
- Allows for the use of graphics to pair with questions.
- Allows for diversity of question types: true/false, multiple choice, essay, short answer, and fill-in-the-blank.
- Order of multiple choice options of a question can be randomized.
- After creation, the test the student sees is straightforward and easy to understand.
- Does not submit the test scores to students until every student has finished, so students can't share their results with those who haven't taken it.
Bad Features:
- Automatic grading system can only be used for true/false and multiple choice questions.
- Creation of individual student accounts is complicated and time consuming. The teacher must enter each student's name and a password; the tool cannot use a database.
- Students cannot change their own password; the teacher/test administrator must create it.
Missing Features:
- Not based on a database of questions. The test creator must create each test individually.
- No system for drawing diagrams.
- No system for programming.
- Cannot set a time limit on the test.
- No built in printing.
- Cannot integrate with grader program.
