Scenario 1 - Canvas Navigation
As the prototype tool is used to manage the many different
possible layers and canvases, the user will recognize a familiarity within
the Canvas Navigator. This navigator is very much like the other
navigators
in the entire software package so as to promote a similar look and feel
between the different tools. The following scenario will describe the actions
a user will take to create a new layer or canvas and how to manage such
information.
Screen 1:
As the user can see, the Canvas Navigator is also a
floating
window which gives the user flexibility in real estate use of the computer
monitor. Let us look at how the user would create a new layer or canvas
and manage all the objects that exist in the user's current project.
Screen 2:
To begin, the user will select the File pulldown menu, then
select either New Canvas or New Layer as seen below.
Screen 3:
Once the user has selected to insert a new layer or canvas, that
item appears in the Canvas Navigator as seen below. In this case,
the
user has selected to add a new layer, which is bound to the original canvas,
Canvas 1. Thus, the presence of the new layer, Layer 1 is at
the
sublevel
of the main canvas as seen in the Canvas Navigator.
Screen 4:
With the creation of a new layer, the user will probably want
to change the name of the layer or canvas. This is simple to do through
the Canvas Navigator. The user simply highlights in the Canvas
Navigator
the layer or canvas to rename, clicks once to show the blinking cursor,
and the user can then type in a new name for that layer or canvas, as seen
below. This also works for any and all objects that are listed in the "Canvas
Navigator".
Screen 5:
Once the user presses the Enter key, the name is committed
and changed in the Canvas Navigator, as seen below.
Screen 6:
With the same style of management, all objects placed on a layer
will be visible in the Canvas Navigator, at a sublevel of that
layer
or canvas. The below screenshot shows the hierarchy of an object placed
on a layer. Just as above, the object can be renamed by clicking and typing
a new name directly in the Canvas Navigator.
