Usability Evaluation Directions
UserTesting.com is giving us a
limited free trial of their services. You will use this to
obtain a usability evaluation of your game prototype. Each
student is allocated three tests. Each test has a maximum of
15 minutes.
Prepare by reading these resources:
Create an account.
1. Visit https://www.usertesting.com/plans
and click ‘Create an account’ under the ‘Basic’ option.
2. Complete the form, paying special attention to the email
and phone number fields. Please use your university email
address and do not include a phone number (just enter 999-999-9999
as shown below). This is necessary to identify you as a student (not
a paying client). (Please disregard any automated email your
receive from the sales team)
3. On the next page you should see your dashboard. Click
‘Order a Test’
4. Create your customized test.
Be sure to select no more than [3] participants.
Click "Select Tasks" at the bottom of the page.
Complete this form following the planning worksheet. Different
kinds of tasks and questions can be chosen from the menu on the
left.
5. When you’re ready to submit your test, enter your gift code under
"Order Summary", in lieu of payment. (See the instructor
to obtain the gift code).
Click "Have users start testing".
That’s it! Your test has been ordered and in about an hour you
should have your videos to review! And when you’re ready to run
another test, simply log back into your dashboard, start a new test,
and enter your gift code for payment.
Dr. Dalbey's Success Tips
-
Read the resources!
-
Write or type tasks and questions and review with team members
-
Limit: 15 minutes
-
High fidelity scripted storyboard on the web is best.
If you expect them to use something besides a browser,
be sure to list that in participant requirements.
-
Do a single test with 1 user and review results to verify
your tasks and questions can be understood and followed.
-
Then do 2 more users.
(Each student is allowed 3 tests.)
