The Society of Women Engineers of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, strives to provide a voice for women that will encourage them to achieve their full potential as engineers and as leaders. It is our mission to create engineering opportunities, provide career and scholastic resources, and demonstrate the value of teamwork to all students of this university and of the community.

Cal Poly SWE offers the following to all its members:

Fall 2007 Newsletter

Winter 2008 Newsletter

Spring 2008 Newsletter

Leadership

SWE encourages its members to become officers, committee heads, and committee members, as well as to get involved with SWE outside of Cal Poly through involvement with regional and national student positions.

Resume Book

SWE encourages all students to submit resumes for the Resume Book. This book is marketed as a part of the summer fundraising promotion and given to all of the companies that attend Evening with Industry. Resumes reflect interests in summer, co-op, and career positions. Submit your resume to Melinda

.

Test Bank

SWE maintains a Test Bank in the SWE office. If you have a test to study for and think an old test would help, we just might have one in the office (Bld. 40 Rm. 120). Check the list here. Also, bring in your old tests and help us keep the test bank well stocked!

Technical Competitions

The annual Team Tech Competition, sponsored by Boeing, emphasizes the key role of teamwork in the engineering education process. This project enables students from all disciplines and levels of engineering to gain hands-on experience beyond the classroom and to work closely within a multi-disciplinary team. There are no pre-requisites, so all students looking for a senior project or just for great technical experiences should look into Team Tech's project for 2007. The project is presented and judged at the SWE National Convention held every Fall.

Additionally, if you are interested in presenting a technical paper at Nationals click here for further details about the Technical Presentation Competition. First place paper is awarded $1,500.

Outreach

SWE maintains a long-term relationship with local elementary schools by having members become "study-buddies" for kids after school and sponsoring activities such as "Gumdrop Structures" at local community events. SWE also has many programs geared toward junior-high and high school students. Programs such as Building An Engineer, Shadow an Engineering Student and Girl Scout Engineering Day give students early exposure to engineering, as well as an opportunity to learn more about engineering through a hands-on approach. Click here for a list of ways to get involved, upcoming events, and pictures.
