The goal of this assignment is to build on the previous one, and construct an ontology for a domain of your interest. You will continue to use the Protégé ontology editor to do this; if necessary, refer to the tutorial developed by Emily Schwarz. The emphasis in this assignment is on the design of the ontology, but you will also use a reasoner in combination with Protégé. You need to submit the newly created ontology on Blackboard.
Draft Status
This assignment is also newly developed, and this class is be the first one to test it. I am considering replacing the Jess and CLIPS environments used in CSC 481 with Protégé, OWL, and Jena. We appreciate your feedback on the suitability of these tools and environments, and your suggestions for improving the tutorial.
Grading Guidelines
This part contributes up to 25 points to the overall assignments score. The ontology itself contributes 15 points, and a document containing a description of the domain and the way you decided to structure the ontology is worth up to five points. The remaining five points come from your feedback and suggestions concerning the tutorial.
Submission
You need to perform the following tasks for he completion of this assignment:
- submit an OWL file with the ontology of your selected domain to the Blackboard “Assignments” wiki page
- submit a document that gives an overview of the domain, and an explanation of your particular way of structuring the ontology;
- provide feedback about the tutorial and the assignment through the link provided at the end of the tutorial.
