This is the entry point to the Web pages for the CPE/CSC 581 Knowledge and Usability class during the Spring 2014 term. Please note that material is being added to the pages in the course of the quarter.

What is Where?

In this class, we’ll use several repositories and tools for various purposes:
  • Instructor’s class Web pages: General class information, such as syllabus, schedule, assignment specifications; see the links on the navigation bar
  • Dropbox folder with presentation slides: Powerpoint, PDF and Keynote versions of the lecture slides; the Keynote version is the one I actually use in the lectures, and contains last-minute changes
  • PolyLearn (Moodle): Grades, submission of labs and assignments (sometimes via pointers to Web questionnaires)
  • Piazza: Discussion board, announcements
  • Knowledge Management Evernote notebook: Collection of snippets for the selection of presentation and project topics; see also related notebooks on User-Centered Design and AI and Knowledge-Based Systems.
Note: Since we can’t offer CSC 486 Human-Computer Interaction every year, this course combines elements of the usual CSC 581 course with some of the material from CSC 486. It also can be used instead of CSC 486 as the second course in the UCD/HCI sequence (normally CSC 484 and 486).
