CSC 490 Spring 2002 Assignments
An overview table with the
assignments and their respective contribution to the grades can
be found in the Syllabus.
Presentation Report
For each of the presentations, each student needs to write a
short report with the following structure:
- Title
-
- Speaker
- name, affiliation
- Author
- student writing the report
- Summary of the talk (4 points)
- main points of the talk
- Clarification Questions (2 points)
- at least 3 questions to the speaker
(e.g. for further details on some topics, or for clarification)
- Comprehension Questions (2 points)
- questions and answers that can be used to evaluate
the understanding (these may be used for the midterm or final)
- References (2 points)
- at least 3 additional references (books, journal articles,
Web pages) relevant for the topic, with one or two
sentences that briefly explain why you think that particular
reference is relevant
The report will be evaluated by the instructor, possibly
in collaboration with the speakers.
Each report will be worth 10 points, and the points for
all the reports will be added up, with a cap at 100 points.
Since there are more than ten presentations, you can make up
for a possible lower score on some reports by submitting more
than ten.
These reports contributes 50% to the grade.
Exams
There will be at least one exam, and possibly one or two short quizzes.
The exams will contribute 25% to the grade.
Speaker Hosting
The tasks to be performed by the student hosts are outlined in
a separate document containing a
speaker checklist. The student hosts are required to write
a report on their activities related to the hosting.
There is no prescribed format for this report, but it
should address at least the following issues:
- preparations
- interaction with the speaker
- presentation and discussion
- after the talk
- suggestions for improvement
- conclusions
The overall hosting performance, including the report,
contributes 25% to the grade.
