1.5.6 IHS
IHS (Intelligent Homework System) provides automated online homework problems. Generally, these are randomly-created, conceptual problems testing some area in computer science.
It is proprietary software developed by Dr. Clint Staley and is so far only used in his classroom.
Good Features:
- automatic grading and immediate feedback for students
- compiles and tests code immediately on student submission of code snippets
- keeps track of all scores accumulated for a student in a given "Workbook"
- countdown timer and deadlines
- student reviews problems after completion
Bad Features:
- very limited use and individual part-time developer means it still has bugs
- user interface leaves something to be desired for students
- question generation is not advertised, and nothing can be said for its ease of use
- difficulty reviewing old questions for students once the question is completely finished.
Missing Features:
- no "lockdown" feature
- no auto-generation or profile for creation of tests
- no chance for the administrator to review and annotate the submissions
