1.5.6 IHS

IHS (Intelligent Homework System) provides automated online homework problems. Generally, these are randomly-created, conceptual problems testing some area in computer science. It is proprietary software developed by Dr. Clint Staley and is so far only used in his classroom.

Good Features:

• automatic grading and immediate feedback for students
• compiles and tests code immediately on student submission of code snippets
• keeps track of all scores accumulated for a student in a given "Workbook"
• countdown timer and deadlines
• student reviews problems after completion

Bad Features:

• very limited use and individual part-time developer means it still has bugs
• user interface leaves something to be desired for students
• question generation is not advertised, and nothing can be said for its ease of use
• difficulty reviewing old questions for students once the question is completely finished.

Missing Features:

• no "lockdown" feature
• no auto-generation or profile for creation of tests
• no chance for the administrator to review and annotate the submissions
