2.7.2. Edit

Operating systems typically provide a "clipboard" area through which cut, copy, and paste commands operate. Scheduler utilizes this functionality along with drag and drop mouse movements to perform these operations.

Cut & Copy

To execute a cut or copy command, a user selects a segment of text by clicking and dragging with the mouse over the desired area, and then uses the appropriate keyboard shortcut associated with the operating system to perform the operation. If it is a cut command, the system removes the selected text and copies it into the clipboard. If it is a copy command, the system only copies it into the clipboard. A text segment can be unselected by clicking the mouse anywhere on the screen. The cut command can be executed where text boxes are editable, while the copy command can be executed in any read-only text boxes as well.

Paste

To execute a paste command, the user must first execute a cut or copy command. Then, a user uses the appropriate keyboard shortcut while the cursor is in an editable text box to perform the operation. The system takes the text stored in the clipboard and inserts it at the cursor location.

Drag & Drop

Scheduler supports some drag & drop functionality to perform operations similar to those mentioned above. As described in Section 2.5.6, manual editing is possible by an Administrator user in the calendar view. The user can manipulate a schedule by dragging and dropping course sections. This is effectively a cut and paste operation.
