1.3. Operational Setting

This tool can scale to several different operational settings: the most important of which is Cal Poly's Computer Science department. From there, it can be simply scaled up to be used campuswide at Cal Poly, any other campus, or even across multiple campuses simultaneously. Given that campuses have restrictions that surround the proper generation of schedules, this tool will be equipped to handle the input of and accounting for the restrictions, such as avoiding "open" time slots like Cal Poly's UU hour, preventing specific sets of courses from overlapping, or trying to schedule lecture/lab courses near each other.

In all such settings, the tool requires a single initial setup, whereupon its database is manually populated with the necessary information to complete its task by an administrator. After this initial setup, the tool will not require such comprehensive data entry for subsequent schedules, only requiring information to be updated as necessary.
