1.1. Problem Statement

The general problems to be addressed by the Grader project are the following:

  1. to provide a reliable and secure way for teachers to maintain grading information for a course, computes statistics, and manages electronic submission of graded work

  2. to provide a graphical input and customizable grading schemes

  3. to provide a way for students to browse overall grade statistics for a class, ask "what if" questions, and browse historical grade trends
The Grader tool provides a solution with certain functional improvements over existing tools. Specific problem areas are the following:

  1. inability to customize grading schemes

  2. no way for students to view overall grade statistics
