1.5.5. Quizlet
Quizlet is a free, online quiz tool aimed at individuals who wish to study a subject quickly and conveniently. Quizlet's large and diverse user base prove it's effectiveness as a study tool, but it lacks the control that teachers needed to administer tests electronically.
Good Features:
-
custom test sharing and modification between users allows for thorough, collaborative sample exams
-
choice between using previously created or creating new test material
-
categorization of existing test questions by subject or related school course
-
no account is needed to start a test. Any user can start testing or writing flashcards/questions within seconds of visiting the page
-
social media capability facilitates constructive communication between peers
-
users who chose to register can view their test performance history to find their weak points
Bad Features:
-
excessive social media features clutter the environment meant for test taking
-
available question types are limited and not configurable
-
the paid version, "Quizlet Plus," only removes some user limits and ad clutter, neglecting to add some much needed features for test administrators
-
the site encourages teachers to implement Quizlet in class and for outside studying. This is poor idea since Quizlet lacks the ability to focus test data on a set curriculum or textbook, potentially hurting users' academic performance.
Missing Features
-
a legitimate, secure test-taking environment for administering graded tests
-
code and short answer question types
-
advanced test creation done by user defining only the test question attributes, automatically assembling an appropriate test from a question bank
-
"keyword crawling" method to roughly grade short and long-answer questions
