1.3. Operational Setting

There are four physical operational settings for the Test Tool: (1) a department-level host computer; (2) instructor computers; (4) student computers; (3) dedicated test-taking rooms.

The test tool is intended for use by the Cal Poly CS Department to create and manage tests that allow coding questions and self grading. On a department-level host computer instructors will be able to share a test database and securely post untaken and graded tests. The host computer will also be able to host publicly available practices tests where the public can be specified.

For instructors a downloadable application will allow to create, manage, and post tests. Students will be able to take practice and take-home tests on their personal machines.

The Test Tool is also designed to be installed on computers in a dedicated test-taking room. One Computer acts as the master in which the proctor will control. The other computers will be slave client machines on which the students will take the tests.
