1.5.2. PolyLearn (Moodle)
PolyLearn, Cal Poly's spinoff of Moodle, is the current de facto testing tool at Cal Poly.
PolyLearn is an all-in-one classroom webpage that allows teacher to post documents, grades,
tests, quizzes, a calendar, and news, among other features. Its testing tool supports
multiple question types, and some question types (multiple choice and true/false) are
automatically graded so students can immediately know their scores.
Overall, Polylearn provides an acceptable level of testing functionality. It does not
support coding questions or integration with IDE's, and it has no way to limit students
from looking up answers on the internet.
Good Features:
-
supports multiple question types
-
an all-in-one suite for a class with other features besides test-taking, such as posting class
notes, lectures, grades, and homework
-
already integrated with the Cal Poly Portal
-
time limits on tests
-
available on the web
-
tests can be taken a specified number of times
-
integration with grading features
Bad Features:
-
user-interface isn't the best
tools
-
time limit and questions remaining should be displayed more prominently
Missing Features:
-
support for coding questions
-
a way to limit users' other computer activity
-
a way to generate tests based on time
-
an easy way for instructors to adjust tests grades and drop questions
