1.4. Impacts

Our project, a web and desktop grader tool for a new generation, hopes to simplify the process of assigning and grading homework, quizzes, and other assignments for instructors. In addition, our project provides new useful functionality for both instructors and students. Our goal is for these features to become commonplace, upping the standard of comfort for instructors and students alike.

Our project will replace extant grading tools used by instructors, and so we will provide features based on instructor testimony. We will speak to instructors currently using the PolyLearn interface and augment what they find to be its shortcomings and difficulties in addition to providing various functionality of our own.

Instructors, after becoming accustomed to our project's interface, will find keeping track of course assignments, grades, and information simple and data and student analysis extensive.

Students who have trouble accessing and reading their course grades will find their struggle alleviated.

Given that many instructors currently use some form of a grader tool, they will have become accustomed to their grader of choice. For instructors at Cal Poly, this tool is most likely PolyLearn. Therefore, instructors switching to our product face a learning curve in gaining familiarity with our interface and implementation.

In addition, students who are familiar with a different grader tool may not be quick to try out our project's added features, such as the histogram or grade completion.

Because these sorts of grading utilities currently exist, our project will not change the current state of the market, displacing jobs or altering instructor workflow. However, if we do not show diligent care in securing our database, users could face unwanted data leakage, resulting in possible lawsuits and embarrassed students.
