2.4.1.5. Linking Snapshots to the Lecture

Snapshots created through the 'Presentation->New Snapshot' menu item or by the 'New Snapshot' button are initially not linked to a lecture topic. Snapshots can be linked to any lecture topic (this includes titles, main topics, and subtopics). Figure 2.4.1.5a shows a new, unlinked Snapshot. The Snapshot's status is shown as Unlinked, since it has not been linked to a topic yet.

To create and link an Snapshot at the same time, the user right-clicks on the desired topic and chooses the 'Create Linked Snapshot' menu item. This combines the acts of creating the Snapshot and linking it to the desired topic. Figure 2.4.1.5b shows the topic context menu shown when the user right-clicks on a lecture topic.

To link an Snapshot to a particular point in the lecture, the user drags the Snapshot from the Desk Drawer onto the point he or she wants to link to. Figures 2.4.1.5c-e show the user dragging the Snapshot shown above to the lecture point titled "First Day".

Figure 2.4.1.5e: The Snapshot is now linked.

The status of the Snapshot changes to reflect the linked topic, and a small Snapshot icon is added to the lecture on the left of the "First Day" topic. Linking an Snapshot that has previously been linked moves the Snapshot from the old linked point to the new linked point. Snapshots can only be linked to one point at a time. However, one slide point may have multiple Snapshots linked to it.

Once an Snapshot is linked to a lecture topic, it stays linked to that topic until it is unlinked. To unlink a Snapshot, the user right-clicks on the Snapshot and chooses the 'Unlink Snapshot' menu item from the context menu (See Figure 2.4.1.5f).
