KEWL was developed at the University of Western Cape (UWC) to facilitate research into online learning. It’s a full online courseware system that can be modified. Its primary target is the developing world. It provides an interface for students to interact with educational content and resources. The best part is that KEWL is completely free and is registered as an open source under the GPL agreement.
Good Features
create, manage, delete, and archive a course
manage a threaded discussion forums
manage security and permissions
establish pop-up study questions on each content page as well as create quizzes and worksheets
use streaming audio and video within course content
administer grades, so that students view their own grades but not others
a shared whiteboard for each course where they can draw and type
can take notes on any content page and compile them with and without the content
capability to export a course to static content for use on a CD –ROM or static web mirror
Bad Features
is a work in progress since is researched based so some of its features are still under development

Missing Features
The ability of expanding and collapsing
Does not have a roster that can take attendance
A student tracking device which informs either through e-mail or text message to a phone about important dates and deadlines.
