1.1. Problem Statement

The general problems to be addressed by the eClassroom software project are the following:

  1. To provide a paperless collaborative learning environment
  2. Promote student collaboration by creating an easy way for students to interact with the lecture
  3. The implementation of only some of the needed features in commercially avilible software
While these problems have been addressed in a number of available software products, the eClassroom software focuses on a few features that are left out of the commercially available options. The specific features that are not availible in the commercial solutions but the eClass software will do are the following:
  1. Designed for in-classroom use but still availible to those viewing from outside the classroom
  2. Giving instructor full control over what the students can use the computers for on the in classroom machines
  3. Provide the instructor with interactive slides
  4. User interface simplicity
  5. The ability to take attendance of a class
Some specific features that will be integrated from existing programs include:
  1. Voice support for remote viewing
  2. Integrated drawing tool inside of lecture
  3. Hand raising
  4. Integrated note taking
  5. Granting student permissions of presentation
  6. The use of layers in drawing on slides
The eClassroom addresses the requirements of a particular customer. This customer needs a tool with a collection of features not available in any products. Although most of the features needed are solved by available software, there is no one program that meets all of the requirements.
