Classroom Portals is a suitable and simple grader program for an instructor
to manage grades with several classes. Since this is a relatively old program
for software standards, there are many missing features that are available in
most newer grader programs. Because Classroom Portals is only designed to be
used by instructors, students are not able to use Classroom Portals to view
grades.
Good Features:
- provides a wizard to help set
up a class and add students
- provides warnings if fields
are not completed before moving on to the next screen
- provides many statistics
about classes such as number of students that passed/failed, percent of
students that passed/failed, lowest score, highest scores, average, and
even standard deviation
- provides different graphs
such as pie charts, bar graphs, and line graphs
- provides a way to compare
multiple classes
- provides records of
attendance
- provides a seating chart
- overall, it's simple and
suitable for most instructors to use
Bad Features:
- many misspellings throughout
the program
- the main page displays a
student's name along with his/her ID number, but doesn't allow the name to
be clicked on to see more information; seems like more functionality could
have been added here
- some fields are required to
be filled out even though it may not be necessary to fill them out
- another wizard could have
been implement to show out to add a homework/test and scores
- user interface seems outdated
- buttons are not in color,
sometimes difficult to distinguish the buttons
- only allowed to enter scores
with up to four digits
Missing Features
- Student interface; this is
only designed for an instructor
- Histogram view
- Grade prediction feature
built in
- Median or mode grade averages
- Spreadsheet view
- Undo and redo features
