Section 1.1 - Problem Statement

The general problems solved to be solved by the Grader Tool are:

• To provide an efficient, accurate, and secure electronic grading tool.
• To provide a tool with features specifically customized for grading, as opposed to a general-purpose spreadsheet.
• To provide features for graphical manipulation of the stored grades.
• To interface with the Cal Poly Student Information Service for obtaining rosters and posting grades

Currently, there are many commercial tools that address the issue of an electronic grade book, but each lacks individual essential tools to provide the instructor with an easy way of cataloging, viewing, and editing the information. This tool will focus on these areas, specifically by:

• Giving the ability to adjust grades graphically by means of an adjustable histogram, pie-chart, or dot plot.
• Easily expandable or collapsible columns for easy, configurable viewing.
• Multi-level graded items, for recursive categorization and organization of different items.
• Access levels for secure, flexible grading.
