1.4. Impacts

The positive potential impacts of the grader tool are:

The grader tool uses combination of tools and features from other products, which causes legal issues as a negative impact. The product may encourage students to do the mininum amount of work to receive a certain grade, and also lessens student-teacher interaction regarding the students' grades. Serious impacts are related to security issues which leads to problems of privacy, reliability, and data integrity. Private information of users may be compromise, and if the tool becomes unreliable or the data has been disrupted, the performance of the grader no longer provides an increase of productivity in grading. One possible example is if students are able to alter electronic turn-in dates, which ruins the integrity of late-policy system. Another example would be interception of electronic submitted grades during the transferring process among local and server machines. Such negative impacts may have severe consequences. However, if the grader tool has a strong implementation of the security encryption, then there is nothing to worry about such negative impacts.
