There are three operational settings for the Grader Tool: (1) normal use within the Computer Science department at Cal Poly; (2) use on Cal Poly's campus as a whole; and (3) other educational institutions (outside of Cal Poly).

The Grader Tool is intended to be used specifically in the Computer Science department at Cal Poly, with the possibility of expanding to include the whole campus and/or other educational institutions. As such, the operational setting in which it is to be installed at Cal Poly is on instructor computers (personal or department), student computers (personal or department), a department server where grades may be posted or fetched, and possibly a Cal Poly SIS (Student Information Services) computer.

Because the primary setting for the Grader Tool is the Cal Poly Computer Science Department, importing student data will be done in a format corresponding to the school's current Cal Poly user system. This may vary outside of the department or school.
