1.1. Problem Statement

The Main problems that will be addressed with the use of the Grader:

  1. to provide a secure and trustworthy environment in order to keep track of grades in a classroom
  2. to allow for a teacher to have more easy to use options when it comes to grading
  3. to allow students to keep up to date on their grades and receive other useful information

Although these features exists in many commercial grading programs, there are specific attributes that are lacking from such software. Specifically:

  1. integration with Student Information Services (SIS) in two directions
  2. providing a centralized host repository where instructors post grades and students view them
  3. allow electronic and time stamped submissions of student work
  4. multiple ways to see grades and adjust grades
  5. customizable options such as color
  6. interactive environment with students allowing for What if type scenarios
  7. historical trends of past classes

The Grader implements the requirements of a particular customer. This customer requires a tool with a collection of features not available in any single existing tool. The Grader combines the tools of other software packages as well as add features not yet existing in such packages. The specific requirements that are necessary but not met in other suites include:

  1. multiple views of grades including: spreadsheet, histogram, pie, and range charts
  2. more specific and customizable options
  3. more flexible grading options
  4. interaction for students
