2.8.1. Server Set Up

The computer set up for the Grader follows the diagram shown in Figure 2.8.1a.

The teacher machine is the central computer in the system. It interacts with the school's SIS server in order to fetch the roster for the class or to post the final grades of the students at the end of the quarter. The machine also interacts with the department server to keep up to date grades on the courses. The TA and the teacher also share a file to keep grades current.

The student machine interacts with the department server in order to fetch grades for students to view online.

The department server, as stated above, receives grades from the teacher machine and allows for students to access them.

The SIS server, once again, gives the student roster to the teacher machine and grabs the final grades of the students.

Finally, the TA machine shares a file with the teacher machine in order to input and edit grades.
