1.5.3 ComQuip I.Q. Session Review

The I.Q. session software system is owned by ComQuip, Inc. Strong points of this system come from the feature descriptions on the developer’s web page, http://comquip.com. Useful and relevant functions include Instructor Course Assignments and Course instructor preferences. According to the description, “The new instructor course assignment functionality will allow the user to identify the courses instructors may teach and each instructor's max load.  The scheduling algorithm will then assign these instructors to course sections prior to scheduling to balance the load and to produce conflict-free schedules for instructors…” This is not unlike the customer’s specifications on instructor scheduling, although one change that is needed is forinstructors to be direct users. Yet the max loads and conflict avoidance are all necessary features. An interesting feature is Back-to-Back classes, which implements instructor preferences for classrooms and same courses. A similar preference system is required, although it deals more with courses and times. Unnecessary aspects of I.Q.Session are Scheduling Options, which consists of class duration customization and student convenience concerns. The student facet of this system should be left out, focusing only on instructor schedules. I.Q. Session also supports special scheduling for athletes, which falls under this unnecessary aspect. Missing items in I.Q. Session are preference points, lab-lecture pairing, distance preferences, and time between class configurations. Overall, this related system has fundamental similarities to the required customer outline, with alterations needed to mirror the specifications.
