1.5.2. Lantiv Scheduling Studio
Lantiv is a scheduling tool dsigned to be used by schools, universities, medical establishments,
and businesses for their scheduling needs. It manages schedules with the creation of resources
such as employees, faculty, rooms, courses, etc, and then allows for manual point and click creation
of schedules. It does not contain user-access levels and therefore is only designed to be used by an
scheduling admin, which is what this project is supposed to be helping automate. For more information
about Lantiv, visit their website here.
Overall, Lantiv has some great ideas for scheduling in general but is not as automated as it could be.
Good Features:
-
time blocks become 1/n of their width when they conflict with n other time blocks already on the schedule:
quickly and effectively communicating time conflict during mouse-dragging process.
-
if event is dropped within conflict, message pops up confirming that there is a time conflict and states precisely what conflicts
-
drag with mouse to select hour-long blocks or use UI arrows to increment/decrement 5 minutes
-
conflict Tab- showing any and all conflicts in one location
-
ability to flip display axes. ie: Horizontal days -> Vertical days
-
flexibility to add and remove: students, teachers, rooms, equipment, etc
Bad Features:
-
really cluttered UI
-
features are accessed throughout the border of the app
-
not intuitive, interface has a very steep learning curve
-
right click options not readily available
-
many features are done with buttons where drop down menus/shortcuts would be better
Missing Features:
-
lacking export options
-
multi-Language support non-existant (only supports English and Hebrew)
-
in-program help not very helpful
-
missing preferences for auto-creation, feature non-existant
-
schedule optimization not supported, mostly manual entry
-
user access levels not available
