1.5.2. FET - Free Timetabling Software
The first thing to note about FET is that it's open source.
Of course, there are many open source schedulers out in the market, however this one is a little different.
It's a bit underdeveloped, but for what it's worth it works. Naturally, this will not work well for the system that we are
developing for.
Good Features:
- Information can be imported and exported via CSV format. Export also includes HTML and XML formats.
- Space constraints for rooms includes unavailability periods and preferred activities
- Preferences/Constraints have percentage value from 0% to 100%, making a more precise preference.
- Constraints to keep 2 activities from overlapping (how we want 300-400 classes not to)
Bad Features:
- There are limits to many parameters, such as number of students, teachers, rooms for the database to hold.
- Design implementation has not been executed well.
- Display of final calendars hard to read.
Missing Features:
- Drag/Drop functionality for editing process after scheduling algorithm has been used.
- Cannot sort schedules by room
- Constraints for rooms such as max students it can hold
