1.3. Operational Setting

The Test Tool is designed for use in an academic setting, primarily the Computer Science Department offices, secondarily other University offices, and thirdly public education facilities elsewhere. It is usable from office or classroom computers and is intended to function with the following physical organization:

  1. Master tests are created at a professor's local computer and made available over the network in any of the pre-configured testing rooms.
  2. Students may take a test at any workstation or terminal in the appropriate testing room.
  3. Professors may post graded exams to a network host for retrieval by students.
  4. Professors may also share question databases over the network with other faculty.

At the moment, the CSC Department primarily uses word processors and other basic testing tools to produce paper-based tests. Some professors in the CSC Dept. and elsewhere use the University's BlackBoard system to develop and administer tests. The Test Tool replaces the functionality of all of these tools but does not interface with the existing system.
