Site 57: Tas Silg Temple A

Date of Exploration: March 24, 2011

This site is located near the town of Marsaxlokk and is not open to the general public as it is still an active archeology site with several excavations underway and efforts are being made to preserve the remaining ruins. The first cistern we investigated started in a square room with 3 passageways branching off from it. Each passageway branched out further, although we were unable to explore each passage completely due to shallow water and debris.

Shown below is the sonar image illustrating the shape of the cistern. The access point is directly above the square room in the middle. The three passages coming off of it are to the left, right and bottom as seen in this picture. There is a slit just at the water line which we believe connects to the other cistern access point (the passageway seen at the top of the sonar image), although at this point we are unable to confirm that they are connected (due to the low water levels).
