1. Introduction

This document defines requirements for an electronic classroom, known as E-Class, comprised of a set of interactive learning and collaboration tools. E-Class’s back-end architecture and front-end user interface allow instructors to display slideshows and other multimedia to a gathered group of students. The core of E-Class’s presentation functionality encourages students to use drawable, editable, sharable, and savable annotations that can be overlaid upon the live, onscreen content. Presenters are free to set individuals’ or groups’ permissions for sharing or viewing others’ created layers. E-Class also performs automated administrative functions (such as attendance-taking), and it can solicit audience feedback in the form of real-time surveys and questionnaires.
