1.2. System Personnel

The personnel involved in the eClass project are organized into the following groups and subgroups:

  1. end users
    1. instructors
    2. in-class students
    3. guests (this contains students who are accessing from out of class)
  2. system developers
  3. software engineering students
  4. outside parties

End users are those who use eClass for its intended purpose. End users are either instructors or students that are utilizing eClass to advance the learning curve in their classes, as well as providing excellent hands on question and answering tools revolving around the instructors lecture. Rosters containing student info will be imported from an external source and managed by the instructor (also providing an ability to make taking attendance easier). Finally, anyone can use eClass for guest access to a instructor's lectures, as long as the teacher provides the appropriate permissions enabling the guest feature.

The primary system developer is Gene Fisher. His efforts are based on the work of a number of software engineering students who have used eClass as a class project in software engineering courses. Students whose work has been particularly helpful are Robbie Iannucci, Peter Cunningham, Kevin Carr, Carlos Nunez, Alicia Rohrberg, Jeremy Leland, and John Allwine.

As noted above, eClass is intended to serve as an example for use in software engineering courses. The students who use eClass for this purpose focus on the artifacts of its development rather than its use as a functioning tool.

The eClass project is available as public domain software for use by outside parties. The project directory is located at http://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~arohrber/projects/eclass.
