The large text field on the workspace is intended to be used for purely-textual ``margin notes'' that the drawing tools might be unsuited for.
Each margin note is associated with a particular slide; that is, whenever the user navigates to a new slide, the associated margin notes also appear. Additionally, these notes are plain text, with no formatting options at all.
The notion of ``saving'' these notes is totally transparent. Every change is saved inside of a minute, or on (polite) exit it they have not yet been saved.
